Originally known as the Northern Union XIII, the Great Britain Rugby League team, (also know as "The Lions") is a collective of players from England, Wales, Scotland and Nothern Ireland. rnrnThe team is administered by the RFL (Rugby Football League) who in 2006 announced that after the 2007 Tour the Great Britain Lions team would no longer compete on a regular basis, and that instead players would be able to represent their home nations at a Test level. The plan is that the Great Britain Lions team will come together in future only for occasional tours. In June, 1910 the Northern Union embarked on its first tour of Australia and New Zealand and in 1954 Great Britain won the very first Rugby League World Cup held in France, beating the French 16-12.
